Volunteer Vacancies

We offer volunteer opportunities across all of our projects, please see the Volunteering section for general information. Below you will find details of specific roles we are looking for volunteers to fill....

TEFL Teachers wanted!

For the last two years we have been running a very successful Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) programme for ladies in the Kyabirwa community close to Bujagali Falls, Jinja.

We are looking for a volunteer to continue this programme for a minimum of 3 months. Due to the dynamics of the class we are looking for a female teacher, preferably with some solid TEFL experience.

Gentlemen... do not despair! We are also looking for a male TEFL teacher to conduct English lessons with our team of builders.

The Special Needs Project

Are you looking for an exciting venture?  Are you a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist or a Special Needs Teacher? Then look no further.....this opportunity will enhance your professional and personal development.  Soft Power Special Needs Project is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to come and work in both school and community environments.  Your role would be to enhance the accessibility to education and health provisions for disabled children in rural Uganda.
We now have a special needs unit attached to a government run primary school catering for 2 classes of physically and intellectually disabled children.  We are also starting an outreach service to cater for more disabled children out in the villages.  This will involve providing education and health services to the children and families in the villages.

There are many exciting developments within the SEN project opening up professional and personal volunteering opportunites.

The project offers:
- supporting the teachers in 1 of our 2 special needs classes at Walukuba West P/S catering for children with physical and intellectual disabilities
- supporting and running after school and weekend sports, arts, drama (and any more you wish to implement) clubs with the 36 residential children at Walukuba West P/S SEN unit including the deaf (a chance to learn Ugandan sign language)
- supporting our Ugandan outreach project coordinator in the villages to deliver basic education to disabled children and families, carrying out disability awareness workshops and setting up SEN parent committees.
- supporting our Occupational Therapist to deliver therapy and training to the children at school andout in the villages and be part of the epilepsy training workshops
