It is amazing the variety of ways people raise money for us and some of them just don't fit into the categories so this one is for everything else!


This is Chantel Kent and her friend Shae. Chantel is coming to volunteer with us in May and held a Barefoot Bowls Fundraiser which raised almost £1500. Fantastic work Chantel! Thank you to all who attended and see you in May, Chantel!

The Brewood Singers held a concert at Polesworth Abbey on the 12th April 2008. Tom Brookes was part of the Leeds 2008 group and his father, David, is the choirmaster and organist at Polesworth Abbey and also musical director of The Brewood Singers. So, the two were joined together and a concert was held to raise money for Soft Power.
David said - "The people from Polesworth Abbey and our friends from the Brewood Singers have been so generous and helpful. We have been overwhelmed by the level of support and interest in this charity. Thank you to everyone." The Singers also enjoyed their visit to the Abbey, and one of its members , Mrs Sandy Robertson echoed the sentiments of all by saying "Thank you to all the people at the Abbey for such warm hospitality."
The total raised was £687.04 - thank you very much to everyone involved. Read the full review of the evening.

In Summer 2007 12 keen kayakers from the University of Limerick joined us here in Uganda to tackle the mighty White Nile. They also spent 3 days volunteering with us and brought with them €7,700! An outstanding amount, big thanks to everyone at the uni, friends, families and everyone who donated. Big thanks too to the the group for all their hard work. We hope to see you back soon!

The World Class Kayak Academy came with $2000 from sponsored kayaking events and this went towards putting in hand washing facilities at Buyala St Pauls Primary School and St Mary's Nsuube Primary School. In addition to this, Alyssa Mayor, sister to one of the Kayak students also held her own 'wear your own clothes to school day' fundraising event and raised $564 - thank you
Emily Sherley shook some buckets at London Underground Stations and raised £650

2007 volunteers Emma and Stuart raised £2011 through so many things... one of them being that Stuart (above) ran up 2000 stairs!
Sonja Brittain and her colleagues at school raised $1460 by holding a video evening showing the home made movie she filmed during her travels with Dragoman and including her day spent volunteering with us - thank you.
Having visited us in Jinja Gordon Durward went to great lengths to make sure that Soft Power’s Education Centre finally got enough funding to put on its roof and solar panels.
Long term volunteer Sheila McCormick, whose raised money for the charity in various different ways (read her update on our testimonial page) hosted a cheese and wine night giving a talk and presentation on Soft Power as well as describing her experiences in Uganda.
Evelyn Smith used the wonderful occasion of Granny Smith’s 90th birthday to donate money towards Soft Power Education. Assisted by one of her many inspiring grandchildren, who gave a presentation about the charity, friends and relatives donated money on the big day …a huge thank you from us all in Uganda.
Water in a Tank: Ex-volunteer Sheri Brake raised money for a water catchment tank through writing about her experiences with Soft Power Education. She arrived in May 2005 and described her day to day life in Uganda managing to gain support and interest through regular emailing.
Two young and inspiring volunteers, Laura Frence and Hannah Mansfield, hosted a play at Wynstones School - the money from which went towards their donation for Soft Power. Through 2005 the school continued to support the charity through various events initiated by the girls' experiences with us.
Kayaking Sensation: talented kayaker Emily Jackson competed in America at various events throughout 2005 and put her winnings towards her donation to Soft Power.
African Drumming Night: Having volunteered with us for 3 months in 2005 Bethan Dear went home and hosted a benefit gig in her local town in aid of Soft Power – her father’s African drumming group performed, a local choir sang African songs and DJs played tunes… a great evening for a great cause!
