Nakagyo Primary School is in the Sub County of Buyengo, about a one hour drive from Jinja town along the very bumpy and pot holed Kamuli Road. The school is situated in a small rural village surrounded by lush green fields and many cows! It is an Anglican founded school that started in 1962. Nakagyo Primary School had 685 pupils and 12 teachers with only 9 classrooms when SPE first visited with three of those classrooms in dire need of repair.
Nakagyo was lucky enough to host two volunteer groups in the summer of 2013 from Oxted School through our friends at True Adventure. One of the groups fundraised incredibly hard to ensure that the dilapidated classroom block could be completely repaired – well done Oxted 5! In addition, enough was fundraised to complete some minor repair works and of course paint the entire school with some incredible teaching aids too!
As you can see by the photos the Oxted groups certainly did a good job, making the school a lovely environment for the children to come and learn in.
